Alex Cox, cello (West Palm Beach, FL), performs actively as a recitalist, chamber musician, and member of the Omer Quartet, prize winners of the Bordeaux International Quartet Competition and Grand Prize winners of the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. Having graduated from the Juilliard School and Cleveland Institute of Music his former teachers include Timothy Eddy and Melissa Kraut. Currently he is enrolled at the New England Conservatory in the Professional String Quartet Training Program studying with Donald Weilerstein, Kim Kashkashian, Soovin Kim, and privately with Paul Katz and Laurence Lesser. Further studies have been with the Juilliard, Alban Berg, Miro, and Cavani Quartets. His love of chamber music has brought him to festivals including the Ravinia Steans Institute, Perlman Music Program, La Jolla Summerfest, McGill String Quartet Academy, ProQuartet-CEMC, Banff Centre, Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, and the St. Lawrence Quartet Seminar. Born in West Palm Beach, Florida he began playing cello in public school at 10 years old. His earliest studies were with Orlando Cole and Hans Jensen. He is fortunate to play on a cello by Italian maker Giovanni Bianchi from 1746 on generous loan from cellist Bion Tsang.
