Charles Overton, harp (Richmond, VA) maintains an active schedule as a performer of classical, jazz, and contemporary music. His recent engagements include an appearance at Scullers Jazz Club with his jazz ensemble, the Charles Overton Group, regular performances with the Boston Philharmonic, an appearance as a featured artist at the Dutch Harp Festival in concert with the Dutch National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and a tour of Spain performing Ginastera’s Harp Concerto with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Overton has attended several summer music festivals, including the Pacific Music Festival, Castleton Festival, and Tanglewood (TMC Fellow, 2016 and 2017), performing under conductors such as Stéphane Denève, Jun Markl, Stefan Asbury, and the late Lorin Maazel. Overton studied with BSO principal harp Jessica Zhou at the Berklee College of Music, where he is now on faculty. He is a regular substitute and extra with both the BSO and the Boston Pops. In recent years he has collaborated with BSO associate principal horn Richard Sebring on their co-written duet “Listen, to the Cry of Your Fellow Man” and with BSO violinist Lucia Lin in two works by Michael-Thomas Foumai, commissioned for the duo.
