Evan Hjort, violin (Seattle, WA) attended the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings as a Presidential Scholarship and Stamps Foundation Scholarship recipient and the New England Conservatory as a Presidential Scholar. While he is currently based in Seattle, Evan is a member of the Los Angeles-based conductorless chamber orchestra Delirium Musicum, with whom he recorded an album for Warner Classics last winter. In recent years, Evan has appeared as a regular guest artist at the Rome Chamber Music Festival, Yellow Barn Music Festival, Classical Tahoe, and the Hawaii Chamber Music Festival. He won the New England Conservatory chamber music honors competition while completing his Masters degree. Evan is an enthusiastic proponent of contemporary music, and has worked with and premiered pieces by composers including Tan Dun, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Caroline Shaw, James MacMillan, Gabriella Smith, Steve Mackey, and Wayne Shorter. As a performer and follower of many non-classical musical styles, Evan has collaborated with members of Rolling Stones and R.E.M, and performed new works alongside esteemed jazz musicians like Esperanza Spalding and Billy Childs.
