Luke Hsu, violin (Katy, TX), has soloed with numerous orchestras in Europe and North America under the baton of many eminent conductors such as Hugh Wolff, Pascal Vierrot, Jean-Jacque Kantorow, Leonard Slatkin, Nikolaj Znaider, and Cristian Macelaru. He is also an avid recitalist and chamber musician. He has performed in Wigmore Hall, St. John Smith Square, Windsor Castle, the Bozar, and the Berlin Philharmonie.
Luke’s compositions have been featured many times in Kim Kashkashian’s series and social initiative, Music for Food. Self-taught as a composer, he has written numerous chamber works including a recent duo written specifically for the Weilerstein duo. Lutosławski and Webern are his biggest influences, and he hopes to write music that carries this tradition forward into the 21st century.
Luke studied with Cho-Liang Lin at the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University (BM) and Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory (MM) and (GD). Afterwards, he went to the Royal Academy of Music in London and Mozarteum in Salzburg where he studied with Rodney Friend and Pierre Amoyal respectively.
