Michael Bukhman, piano (Tivoli, NY), has concertized across the United States and in Israel, Turkey, Canada, and Japan. He is currently a visiting assistant professor of music at Bard College, where he founded Play/Chat@Bard, a new concert series showcasing young musicians, combining performance with informal conversation. He has previously served on the faculties of Vassar College and the Young Artist Program at Yellow Barn Music Festival. His awards and honors include being a medalist at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, a top ranked winner of the Jacob K. Javits Fellowship, first prize-winner at the Corpus Christi International Competition for Piano and Strings, and laureate of the Gina Bachauer Competition at The Juilliard School. Michael has performed and recorded in collaboration with Dawn Upshaw, Peter Frankl, Susan Narucki, Donald Weilerstein, and Anthony Marwood, among others. In addition to Yellow Barn, he has been a participant at Music Academy of the West, and the Ojai Music Festivals among others. Michael attended the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music where he recorded the complete 24 Preludes and Fugues by Shostakovich, becoming the first in Oberlin’s history to graduate with honors in Piano Performance (B.M.). He received his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from The Juilliard School. His primary teachers include John Weems, Robert Shannon, and Robert McDonald.
