The Westerlies, a self-described “accidental brass quartet”, and jazz singer and composer Theo Bleckmann, embark on their joint project focusing on music of political dissent and resistance, Songs of Resistance. Newly commissioned works from composers of varying backgrounds reflecting different perspectives on the current political climate, and music of past movements of political resistance, will form the cornerstone of the project. During their artist residency, The Westerlies and Theo Bleckmann will prepare for the production’s New York City premiere during the 2018-2019 season, visual arts and spoken word poetry will be interwoven with this music to create a cohesive whole.
