Javier Iglesias Martin, cello (Spain), is a solo and chamber music performer as well as an active orchestral player. A recent first prize winner of the 2016 American String Teachers Association National Solo Competition, and a winner of the 2016 American Protégé Strings Competition, he will be making his New York debut in November at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall. Javier has participated in many festivals and masterclasses around the world, including the Heifetz International Music Institute, “Pablo Casals” Festival in Prades (France), Winter Workshops of the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival, and Lisbon International Music Academy. Javier has been principal cellist in Orquesta Ciudad de Alcala, Joven Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Festival junger Künstler Bayreuth, and Peabody Concerto Orchestra. He has also collaborated with orchestras JONDE and Orquesta Filarmonia. As a chamber musician, he has performed with artists such as Ronald Leonard, Joan Kwon, William Purvis, Hsin-Yun Huang, Steven Doane, Andy Simionescu, Nicholas Chords, James Dunham, Hye-Jin Kim, Ara Gregorian, and Robert McDonald, and has played in masterclasses for the Takacs String Quartet, Brentano String Quartet, Guarneri Quartet, Tokyo String Quartet, Borromeo String Quartet, and Orion String Quartet. He was a member of the Kubrick Quartet, winner of the Honors Ensemble Competition at the Peabody Institute for two years. A former student of Amit Peled, Javier graduated in 2014 from the Peabody Institute and received the Grace Clagett Ranney Prize for excellence in chamber music. He is currently in his second year pursuing a Masters of Music degree at the New England Conservatory studying with Paul Katz. Javier plays on a Peter Goodfellow cello provided by  the Virtu Foundation.
