After attending Trinity University for Pre-Med and Psychology, Lauren Spaulding, viola (Denver, CO), found her passion for classical music during her first summer music festival experience her junior year of college. Being unable to perform a concerto in high school, Spaulding worked diligently to make her dreams of being a chamber musician a reality; transferring to the Oberlin Conservatory later that year. Spaulding received her B.M & M.M. in Viola performance, working under the tutelage of Professor Peter Slowik and Geraldine Walther of the Takács Quartet. As a soloist, Spaulding has been fortunate to work with and learn from many notable performers including Nobuko Imai, Antoine Tamestit, Lawerence Powers, Pinchas Zukerman, James Dunham, Roger Tapping, and Richard O’Neill.
Based in NYC & Denver, Spaulding is a member of Meredith Monk’s performance ensemble, a regular with the Colorado Symphony, and a recording artist with award winning studios such as ‘Found Objects Music’ in NYC. Driven by a deep passion for the authenticity of chamber music, Lauren spends her time delving into the music of living composers, reimagining the works of classical history, and sharing her love for music beyond the concert hall through social justice and outreach. In 2014, Spaulding was named a “Champion of Change” by President Obama at the White House and has performed for several social justice events, including LGBTQ+ month. Professionally, Spaulding has performed with members of the Cavani Quartet, the Tesla Quartet, the Pro Arte Quartet, and alongside members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, the London Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Ballet, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony.
